Winter Sowing Native Perennials 🌱 This year, I’m giving the milk jug greenhouse method a try for my native perennials! It’s a game-changer for saving time, money, and space since the jugs can be stored outside all winter. Today, I sowed perennials labeled C(60)—meaning they need cold, moist stratification for 60 days to germinate. This process mimics the natural freeze-thaw cycles these seeds experience in the wild, ensuring they’re ready to grow come spring! Have you tried winter sowing before

Phlox are easy to grow hardy perennials which will return and flower in the garden year after year. They establish gradually to form a clump which produces more and more flower stems every time! Bare roots sometimes don’t look like much at first but they can make quite speedy progress in spring. The plants shown here will be ready to transfer into the garden in May, and usually Phlox will flower in the first year too. We’ve potted some of our new varieties this spring - Phlox ‘Cool Water’ and ‘O

Let’s talk autumn planting after stopping by O’Toole’s Garden Centers! What I’m doing this autumn planting season! 1. Sowing fast growing, frost tolerant crops like salad greens and radishes! 🌱 2. Planting garlic to harvest next year! 🧄 3. Planting landscaping like shrubs, perennials, and trees so they can establish their root systems this autumn so they can focus on growth in the spring! 🌳 4. Planting ALL the spring floral bulbs!🪻🌷 #gardening #denver #gardentips #urbanhomestead #lowwaste #

🌸 A large part of joy of gardening is planting something and watching it grow and develop over time. That’s what’s so lovely about bare root perennials. They’re not a supplied as plants in full bloom which only seem to look good for a week before they start to fade. They’re dormant when they’re supplied, ready to be potted up so you get the enjoyment of watching them spring into life over the season and eventually becoming a long term plant which establishes in your garden. If you’re revamping
